Addiction Recovery Support in Argentina

CHANGE INITIATIVE FOUNDATION
Addiction Recovery Support

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:

My name is Daniel Sosa. I am a member of the Grace Brethren Church and part of the leadership team at Fundación Proyecto CAMBIO, a nonprofit organization (NGO) that operates out of the church’s facilities, located at 433 Rivadavia Street. We are deeply grateful to the congregation for providing us with this space from which we can carry out our activities supporting people with addictions and their families.

The Foundation has an interdisciplinary team of ten professionals, including psychologists, a psychiatrist, a nutritionist, an educational psychologist, and therapeutic counselors. Since April 2022, we have been working continuously with a therapeutic program designed and endorsed by SENAF (National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Families)  and the Municipality of Río Cuarto.

This program includes three weekly workshop-style sessions, coordinated by different professionals on the team. These sessions address topics related to recovery, relapse prevention, personal development, and family relationships. In addition, each participant finds a place where they can be heard, supported, and held in their process.

We are currently helping 16 individuals struggling with addiction and their respective families, recognizing that recovery involves not only the person experiencing addiction but also their immediate circle. For this reason, in addition to working with clients, we provide specific spaces for guidance, active listening, and support for family members.

Our work consists of supporting people through active listening, respect, and emotional support, helping them navigate processes of change and recovery. Furthermore, our goal is for this support to serve as a gateway for people to experience God’s love and, if they so desire, to also open themselves up to spiritual guidance. Thank God, this happens often, and many people begin to show interest as they progress in their journey.

In this regard, we work alongside a team of church members who carry out valuable spiritual support. Those who express interest or openness are invited to participate in opportunities for spiritual growth and, in some cases, also begin to integrate into church life. We also support believers who are struggling with substance use and seeking restoration in their lives.

As part of our approach, we strive to protect the privacy of those participating in our programs. For this reason, we do not take photographs of participants or have them appear publicly to share testimonies or participate in presentations. We understand that recovery processes are complex, often marked by periods of progress and relapse, and we believe that preserving their privacy is a way to care for them, respect them, and responsibly accompany them throughout their journey.

The Foundation is supported by the commitment of individuals and fellow believers who believe in this mission. Some of us on the team volunteer our time without compensation as a form of service to the Lord and the community. However, we also rely on professionals who provide specialized services, and whose work requires financial compensation to ensure the program’s continuity and quality.

Furthermore, we strive to ensure that no one is excluded from receiving help due to financial reasons; therefore, in many cases, we award full or partial scholarships to those who cannot afford the cost of participation. For this reason, the support of members and contributors is essential so that we can continue to help those who need it most and carry out this work responsibly and professionally.

Looking toward the future, we hope to expand the scope of our work.

We dream of having our own space that will allow us to carry out more activities, introduce new workshops, acquire materials and supplies, and respond to more complex situations. We also hope that, over time, new programs will emerge to support people who need more intensive care. We know this is a major challenge, but we trust in God’s provision, who continues to multiply resources when His people come together to serve.

In addition to supporting those who come seeking help, we understand that God has also given us the opportunity to share the Gospel and offer spiritual guidance to both individuals participating in our program and members of our own team. Some of the professionals who collaborate with the Foundation are believers and others are not, so we also see this as an opportunity to bear witness to the love and grace of Christ.

For this reason, we would like to extend a special invitation to all Charis Alliance churches to participate with us in this work. We believe that the issue of addiction challenges us as a church to bring hope, support, and restoration to those who need it most.

One of the most concrete ways to get involved is by becoming a “supporting partner of the Foundation.” Through a monthly contribution, each individual, family, or church can directly support the workshops, therapeutic activities, professional support, and scholarships for those without financial resources. Furthermore, these contributions allow us to plan for the Foundation’s growth, acquire necessary resources, and continue developing solutions to a problem that affects an increasing number of people and families.

Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, becomes a concrete opportunity for someone to receive help, support, and hope.

You can also support us through prayer, by spreading the word about our work, and by sharing this vision with others who wish to get involved. We hope that this ministry will be embraced by our entire family of churches and that together we can continue to bring hope to those facing addiction and suffering.

If you would like to learn more about our work, receive information on how to become a partner, or get involved in any way, we would be grateful to speak with you.

May the Lord bless you abundantly,

 Daniel Sosa
