Inspirational People: Aldo Nunes (Brazil)

Aldo de Carvalho Nunes was a man whose life exemplified unwavering faith, deep love, and an extraordinary dedication to the cause of Christ. Born in Barcarena, Pará, Brazil, Aldo’s journey of faith began at 17 years old when a simple pamphlet with the words of John 3:16 changed his life forever. Those words—“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life”—pierced his heart and planted the seed that would grow into a lifetime of service.

With his wife, Regina, by his side for 51 years, Aldo raised a family of five children and nine grandchildren, modeling the love of Christ in both his home and his ministry. As a pastor, Aldo dedicated himself to preaching the gospel and sharing Jesus with his community. He was known for his boldness, humility, and deep passion for sharing God’s transformative love. His message was clear: God’s love is unconditional, and this truth should compel believers to spread the good news.

Even when Aldo faced one of the greatest challenges of his life—his battle with stomach cancer—his faith never wavered. At 77, after undergoing several chemotherapy sessions and a complete stomach removal, he continued to share God’s love with others, testifying to the miraculous grace that sustained him. “God performed a miracle in me; at no time did I feel pain—only discomfort. God is WONDERFUL!” Aldo declared, appreciating the prayers and support of his church family.

For Aldo, the message of John 3:16 remained a constant source of peace, providing him with strength and comfort even in his final days. Knowing that God’s sovereign will is good, perfect, and effective gave him assurance through every hardship.

Aldo’s words of wisdom to the younger generation were simple yet profound: “Preach the gospel while there is still time! Be faithful to God and the denomination.” He believed in the urgency of the gospel and the importance of staying true to the mission, no matter the cost.

On June 5, 2024, just days after sharing his story, Aldo Nunes went to be with the Lord. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of devotion to the gospel continues to inspire us all. His life serves as a powerful reminder that God's love transcends circumstances and that His call to spread the gospel is as urgent as ever.

Aldo’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his life will continue to inspire generations within the Charis Alliance and beyond. May we all follow his example of faithfulness, trusting in the God who loves us without measure.
