Meet the Family: Cristina de Robaina (Uruguay)
My name is Cristina Fernandez de Robaina, and I live in Uruguay, where I attend 'Iglesia de la Esperanza,' the Charis Alliance Church in Montevideo. For 42 beautiful years I was married to my husband, Sergio, but he has since gone home to be with Jesus. We ministered to married couples together and he also served as an elder at our church. We have three daughters and seven grandchildren together.
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 119:105, which says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
If you’ve ever tried walking around in the dark, you’ll know how nice it is to shine a light on your path so you can see things and avoid obstacles. It guides you and shows you the way to go without getting hurt. The Bible has always been that lamp for me, shining on my feet and illuminating my path. Its light enables me to take confident steps in the right direction without being scared of falling.
His Word helps me discern between right and wrong, between truth and lies. His light illuminates my heart, helping me make wise decisions. Whenever I go through difficult times of affliction or distress, God’s Word guides me to a place of safety, comfort, and togetherness with Him.
Holding onto His Word has prevented me from stumbling or straying from God's ways. If I didn’t have His Word to guide me, I’m sure my life would have a lot more sadness, discouragement, and loneliness in it.
And whenever I lose my way, God’s Word and Spirit act as my compass, pointing me back to Jesus who is "the way, the truth, and the life."
But if we want to fully enjoy the light God’s Word offers us, we need to KNOW what His Word says. We need to allow its words to fill our minds and teach us what His will is in every situation of our lives. At 64 years old, my challenge to the next generation is this: read the Bible and let it transform your heart and mind so you can live by it and fulfill God's purpose for your life.
