⛪️ Four Obstacles that can slow our efforts to plant new churches
In some parts of Nigeria, armed groups, criminal gangs, and local conflicts make travel and public gatherings dangerous. Both Christians and Muslims suffer from this violence.
Nigeria’s laws protect religious freedom, but some church planters report difficulty getting land or building permits. In some regions, people who become Christians face strong social pressure and persecution.
The “prosperity gospel” and movements promoting “signs and wonders” have spread widely in Nigeria, leading many people to misunderstand the true gospel or reject it entirely.
Churches planted in poor urban and rural communities often struggle to find, train, and financially support pastors.
🙏🏼 Three Prayer Requests for those laboring to plant new churches
Ask God to protect believers, pastors, and church planters, bring safety to threatened communities, and help Christians build peace with their neighbors.
Ask God to raise up a new generation of church planters who are prepared to respond to Nigeria’s unique opportunities and challenges.
Ask God to provide partners who can help train and support Charis Alliance leaders, church planters, and churches. The movement is small and needs support to grow stronger and plant more churches.
🌍 Two Interesting Facts about our movement in this country
The Charis Alliance began ministry in Nigeria through the work of church planters from neighboring Chad.
Most Nigerians speak Hausa and English, while Charis Alliance churches in neighboring countries use French and local languages. These language differences can make it harder for those churches to provide support.
♥️ One Precious Promise as we seek to plant new churches
“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself ... Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.”
