Day 4: Cambodia

🇰🇭 Cambodia

⛪️ Four Obstacles that can slow our efforts to plant new churches

  1. The rapid growth of a consumer culture, along with the desire to escape poverty, has led many people into debt. These financial burdens create stress and distractions among almost all Cambodians today.

  2. People who leave their family’s religion to follow Christ often face strong pressure from relatives or neighbors to return to traditional beliefs and practices.

  3. Many smaller churches have grown used to financial support from other countries. This dependence can limit the growth of local leaders and discourage new believers from giving to their own churches.

  4. In rural areas, many healthy adults have moved to cities or neighboring countries to find work, leaving older adults to care for the children at home.

🙏🏼 Three Prayer Requests for those laboring to plant new churches

  1. Ask God to give comfort, strength, and courage to Christians facing opposition from family and neighbors. Pray that they will remain firm in their faith and show Christ’s love.

  2. Ask God to help church members grow in their ability and commitment to support their pastors financially. Pray that churches will also give to help plant new churches.

  3. Ask God to work powerfully among university students who profess faith in Christ, leading them to help plant churches in their hometowns.

🌍 Two Interesting Facts about our movement in this country

  1. Evangelical Christians make up only 1.4% of Cambodia’s population, and many areas have no gospel witness.

  2. The Charis Alliance has invested heavily in Cambodia for several decades, yet few churches are strong enough to sustain their ministries. More workers are needed!

♥️ One Precious Promise as we seek to plant new churches

“And Jesus said to [Zacchaeus], ‘Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’

—Luke 19:9–10
